Clean technologies and low-carbon, renewable energy are key priorities for the Finnish Government. They are also important elements of our industrial success stories. Finland is highly committed to the Paris Agreement and working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The World Economic Forum ranked Finland number one in the world in Environmental Performance Index 2016. Finland is determined to build a carbon-neutral society by 2045. In order to achieve this goal, Finland shall, for example, end the use of coal for energy and raise the share of renewables above 50 % of total energy consumption by 2030. Fossil fuels will be replaced with advanced biofuels and electric vehicles. Finnish companies are particularly strong in smart and clean technologies, renewable energy and waste-to-energy-solutions.
