The State of Gujarat, a front-runner in development of Conventional as well as Renewable Energy Sector with an installed conventional capacity of 19,555 MW and Renewable capacity of 7,525 MW, is well poised to achieve long-term energy security, sustainability and reliability in environment- friendly manner.

Gujarat was one of the first states to announce a solar policy in 2009 and since then has taken the lead in the development of a state of the art 745 MW capacity solar park at Charanka. The state is in the process of establishing two additional solar parks - 700 MW at Radhanesda and 500 MW at Harshad. Further, an Expression of Interest for procurement of 1,000 MW solar power from the proposed 5,000 MW Dholera solar park has been issued, while MNRE has floated an EoI for a 1000 MW off-shore wind park planned in Gujarat.

Keeping in mind an integrated approach to energy and sustainability, the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has signed PPAs for 52.9 MW Municipal Solid Waste to Energy (WTE) projects. Further, Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY) – a pilot scheme for the introduction of net metering to 12,400 agricultural water pumps adding to a total of 175 MW solar capacity has been initiated. This scheme intends to make farmers self-reliant and raise their income through the sale of surplus power to the Distribution Companies. Off-grid solar water pumps for farmers are also being supported and a total of 12,742 numbers of pumps have been installed.
