Session Brief
As per census 2011 around 88% rural households and 35% of urban households in India are using either biomass, coal, firewood or kerosene for cooking needs and these sources creates serious health problems if not used with clean cooking techniques. In this context, the Session will dwell upon the measures required to meet India's clean cooking needs. The participants will discuss ways to make policies and programmes conducive for quick adoption of clean cooking technologies, creating awareness, standardization and ensuring performance, etc. This session would have participation from some of the top global experts working on in this area, and would deliberate on emerging international trends and insights for developing a clean cooking strategy for India.

Discussion Points

  • How to create awareness and cater to the demand for clean energy in rural areas?
  • Global technologies available for clean cooking. Can that be adapted to India?
  • How to make available a low-wattage, high-efficiency electrical cooking appliance that consumes much less electricity and can be coupled with a nominal sized solar panel if needed.
  • What are the best financing models for India to ensure cheap energy services can be delivered to rural and urban households?
