Uttar Pradesh has immense potential of power generation based on Renewable Energy Sources. The State Government is determined to increase the share of power generation from Renewable Energy Sources in the current energy mix to meet the ever-growing demand of Power in the State and for achieving overall energy security. To meet the target in the years to come, the State Government declared the Solar Energy Policy 2017 with the three key objectives

•    Encourage private investment for setting up Solar Energy-based Power Generating Plants in the State.
•    Support in providing environment friendly and affordable Power for All.
•    Promote Research & Development, innovations and skill development in the State

Targets proposed to be achieved in Solar Energy Policy till 2022 is 10,700 MW, based on achieving a minimum of 8 percentage contribution from Solar Source out of total energy consumption.
